Doosan Infrastructure announced on April 16 that it received the Gold Award at the International Forum Design (iF Design) Awards 2021 in Germany for its Concept-X excavator design.
The iF Design Awards is the contest organized by the German International Forum since 1953 and considered one of the world’s three design awards together with IDEA in the United States and Red Dot Design Awards in Germany. More than 10,000 works were submitted this year, and the Gold Award won by Doosan Infracore is the highest honor given only to 75 designs.
As a future-oriented unmanned construction equipment, Doosan Infracore’s Concept-X excavator is characterized by no cabin for the operator and four separated continuous tracks constituting the lower part. The four-track configuration is advantageous for taking a stable position on uneven ground. The design includes all components except the excavator boom—corresponding to human arms—of the excavator to be motorized, and the circular indicator mounted on the joint areas to recognize the load easily.
Concept-X is the world’s first unmanned automated and integrated control solution introduced by Doosan Infracore for construction sites in 2019. It can perform construction work unattended by having the drone measure the workplace, automatically analyze the data, establish the work plan, and transfer the data to construction equipment such as excavator and wheel loader.
Doosan Infracore received the award for two years in a row at the iF Design Awards, following the Main Award with the new wheel loader model last year. The company has shown unrivaled design power as demonstrated by winning the Best of the Best at the 2019 Pinup Design Awards and the Main Award at the 2020 Red Dot Design Awards and the 2019 Pinup Design Awards.
“It is not common for construction equipment to win the Gold Award at the iF Design Awards. We plan to build a premium design image by sequentially applying the design recognized to be the best to our products,” a Doosan Infracore official said. <End>
