Doosan (Chairman & CEO Yongmaan Park) is sponsoring The Open Championship (also known as The British Open), the world’s most prestigious golf event, again this year. This year’s The Open will take place at the Muirfield Golf Club in Edinburgh, Scotland from July 18 to 21.
Doosan has been a sponsor of this event for four consecutive years since 2010, enabling it to elevate its brand awareness on the global stage through various campaign ideas using sites both in and outside the venue.
The Company will install an exhibition booth for all visitors within the venue as in previous years, and operate a pavilion for VIP customers. The exhibition booth will showcase diverse exhibits regarding Doosan’s business sectors, including construction equipment and power generation, and feature special corners where visitors can experience an excavator simulator and a screen golf game. Last year, a total of 10,802 people visited Doosan’s exhibition booth over a period of seven days.
Outside the event venue, the Company will run branding busses to introduce Doosan’s brands and businesses to local residents and visitors from around the world. The exterior of the branding busses will be emblazoned with The Open along with the Doosan logo on a white background decorated with icons representing Doosan’s business areas, including power generation, construction equipment, and seawater desalination. Three branding busses have been prepared, and they will visit various locations around Edinburgh for about a week before and after the event.
Doosan is estimated to have generated significant gains in terms of its brand recognition through the exposure of its brand alone during the period of The Open. Repucom, a global brand analyst, calculated that the effect of the Doosan logo exposure via TV broadcasting during the period of The Open was worth some 9.15 million pounds (about USD 14 million).
