Doosan Group (Chairman Yongmaan Park) announced on June 20 that it has decided to offer permanent positions to of 700 temporary workers in a bid to create quality jobs and stabilize employment.
The employees who are to be affected by this initiative perform tasks in the fields of design and quality management, environment and safety at Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction; as well as the technology and product development, and product testing at Doosan Infracore.
The switch process will be carried out in phases according to contract details of each individual, and it is expected to be completed by May, 2014.
The employees with new permanent positions will be guaranteed the same promotion opportunities and retirement age as existing employees. They will also be entitled to attend Doosan’s human resources development programs, including the frequently provided programs on jobs and technology. As such, they will have an opportunity to continuously develop their careers and skills.
With this measure, Doosan will see the portion of its temporary workers decrease from 11.3 percent to 7.4 percent. And, when employing new staff members for these posts in the future, the Company will offer permanent positions as well.
Lee Woo-young, the official in charge of management assistance at Doosan Corp., said, “The latest measure has included maximum numbers of positions that will not entail any problems when converted into permanent posts by the nature, and is aimed at fulfilling corporate social responsibility.” He added, “We expect this converting practice to have a positive impact by enhancing the sense of ownership of the employees concerned and increasing business efficiency.”
